Green Energy 3000, SMA and TESVOLT commission fourth hybrid system (Germany)
Project developer Green Energy 3000 GmbH, photovoltaic system technology specialist SMA Solar Technology AG (SMA), and TESVOLT AG, a manufacturer of commercial and industrial energy storage solutions, have successfully completed their fourth innovation project. The hybrid system in Gardessen (Lower Saxony, Germany) consists of 12 MWp of photovoltaics and 4 MW / 10 MWh of battery storage. SMA supplied innovative inverter and transformer technology, while TESVOLT was commissioned to provide the battery storage systems. The system will supply green electricity to around 3,500 households while also reducing the load on the power grid to support the energy transition.
Stable green power supply for Lower Saxony
In March 2025, Green Energy 3000 successfully commissioned the new hybrid plant in Gardessen, Lower Saxony, in the district of Wolfenbüttel. The building permit for the project was granted at the beginning of 2024, and construction work began in the spring of the same year. Due to weather conditions and associated waterlogging, construction took slightly longer than originally planned.
The total output of the plant is 12 MWp, supplemented by a battery storage system with a capacity of 4 MW / 10 MWh. The combination of photovoltaic system and battery storage allows the power grids both locally and across Europe to be relieved in a targeted manner: surplus energy is stored efficiently and can be fed back into the grid as needed during periods of high demand.
For the project, Green Energy 3000 relied on its proven partnership with SMA and TESVOLT, who contributed their expertise in photovoltaic system technology and energy storage. The commercial and technical management of the hybrid park will be handled by the subsidiary Green Asset 3000 GmbH, which will ensure the sustainable and efficient use of the park.
Strong partnerships and proven technology
In addition to the hybrid plants in Großschirma (Saxony), Schnaittenbach (Bavaria), and Maulbeerwalde (Brandenburg), the project in Gardessen (Lower Saxony) is already the fourth that Green Energy 3000 has successfully implemented in collaboration with SMA and TESVOLT - a clear sign of the company's supraregional commitment and trusting partnership.
“From a technical standpoint, it has become clear how important close coordination with our suppliers such as SMA and TESVOLT is. Through intensive collaboration, we have been able to develop a solid concept over the years that takes both our requirements and those of our partners into account in the best possible way. In the four projects we have implemented together, we have further optimized our processes so that we can plan and implement new systems even more efficiently,” says Lukas Mogg, Head of Technical Project Implementation at Green Energy 3000.
Innovative photovoltaic system technology
For 40 years, SMA has been setting technological trends and driving the development of renewable energies. This forward-looking technology is also being used in Gardessen. Three Sunny Central central inverters as Medium Voltage Power Station S2-10 and ten SMA DPS-500 DC voltage converters help the plant supply around 3,500 households with green electricity per year.
The proven SMA Power Plant Manager as the central energy management system for controlling the hybrid plant rounds off the concept.
“The Gardessen PV park shows how the holistic energy transition can succeed when all project participants work together as partners,” says Felix Lober, Key Account Manager Sales Central Europe at SMA. ”We supplied a container solution tailored to the customer's requirements, including central inverters, transformers, switchgear and DC voltage converters.”
Battery storage to relieve the power grid
For the fourth joint battery storage project, TESVOLT supplied two TPS-E storage containers with a total storage capacity of 10 MWh and 4 MW of power. The battery system used is optimized for continuous use in commercial and industrial applications.
“Thanks to our intelligent battery management system, the energy storage system meets the highest standards of performance and safety. It also guarantees data security for sensitive information, which is becoming increasingly important in light of growing concerns about cyber security,” says Simon Schandert, CTO and co-founder of TESVOLT. “However, our battery storage systems are not only designed to be particularly safe: the focus is always on high economic efficiency – regardless of whether they are used for classic applications such as optimizing self-consumption or peak load capping, or for the particularly lucrative energy trading on spot markets.”
Animal-based landscape management included
In addition to climate-friendly energy generation, the project also emphasizes ecological sustainability in land management: Between spring and fall, sheep grazing is used again for environmentally friendly maintenance of the green spaces under the photovoltaic modules, which naturally ensures that the grass is always kept short.
Further cooperation in the future
“The successful implementation of this project was made possible above all by committed local partners and the dedication of my project team. I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks for this outstanding support,” says Diana Retzlaff, project manager at Green Energy 3000.
The plant in Lower Saxony, with a projected annual yield of 12,320 MWh, is by no means the last of its kind. The successful trio is aiming for further projects in the future.
